A sharecropper who raised 14 children. When her kids had to work the farm instead of attending school, Queen poured everything into ensuring the next generation would have opportunities she never did. Her sacrifice made mediocrity unacceptable. It still does.
Started as a maid with an 8th-grade education. Built a beauty salon, a barber shop, real estate investments. Widowed in 1963 — she kept building. Became the bank for Black families in Emporia, VA when real banks wouldn't serve them. Worked until she was 88.
